Mantra meaning:

”We are we and we are One.”

The sound “Hummm” is a bija mantra that vibrates within the 4th (heart) chakra. It governs our ability to love unconditionally and to heal.

The love of the heart chakra is divine love, love as a state of being, and it brings with it a profound sense of inner peace.

The meditation using this mantra was first taught by Yogi Bhajan on April 19th, 2001 in Los Angeles, U.S.

“The most difficult thing to believe is “We are we and we are God.” I may teach another 100 years, but I will not be able to convince you that you are God. Occasionally, you do not even believe that you are a part of God. You do not even believe that the One who rotates this Earth can take care of your routine. Once you believe that you are God, Mother Nature will start working for you. Just sit down, close your eyes, calm down and be. Practice this meditation to be a creative human being.”

Method

Find a place to sit and relax at your home. The meditation place should be calm and away from surrounding noises. To make sure the place you practice your mantra meditation is quiet so that no one can break your concentration, close your phone and tell others you are starting a meditation (if you don’t live alone).

Sit in a comfortable cross-legged position (preferable sukhasana pose) with your hips elevated above your knees, with your eyes closed and with your hands resting on your laps. This will help you sit with a straight spine, which is the best position for your body to absorb the mantra’s vibrations and concentrate on your intention. Close your eyes and concentrate on your breath until you are completely relaxed.

Start to recite the mantra aloud or in your head. In addition, from the starting position, the forearms and hands move out to the sides, palms facing down. Pull the navel point in energetically and lift the solar plexus and diaphragm smoothly in a focused motion. As the arms move back in, the navel is released. The navel is pulled in as the arms again move back out to the sides. Continue the mantra recitation and hands movement for at least eleven minutes.

A good time for the practice of mantra meditation is early in the morning before your mind becomes consumed with the stress and worries of the day.

Note

Unlike yoga, mantra meditation does not have any contraindications attached to it. Rather, it gives immense benefits to those who practice it daily.
